The West Indies Exiles was born out of passion and fire in 2002. After a very successful campaign in the IRB World Series Sevens, where first ever group points were scored, and Bowl Semis were reached in both the Chilean and Argentinian legs, a bombshell was dropped.......... Potentially West Indies was going to be prohibited from entering World Series events as a group of islands, and restricted to playing as single coutries.
After such a successful tournament where many islands were represented, we felt this was a backward step. The talent is abundant, yet experience is lacking, and the blend between the fresh blood and raw ability of 'Home-grown' players, with british born 'Exile' players, who have played for many years proved to be a successful formula and should be the blueprint for future success.
Hence the birth of West Indies Exiles, officially sanctioned by the WIRU, to keep the british hub of both 'Exile' and 'Homegrown' immigrant players playing and developing together. Whenever possible caribbean based players visit and are added into the mix making a cocktail awaiting to excite the taste buds of world rugby.
